HANNAH VON HÜBBENET

Biography

Berlin-based Hannah von Hübbenet began studying violin and piano at an early age and later played in ensembles such as the Landesjugendorchester Berlin before focusing on playing and writing her own music.

Inspired by the studio work in London with her first band, she has since focused on composing and producing film music - finding the freedom to move between a wide variety of musical styles, regardless of the genre. She is fascinated by the influence music has on the perception of situations and moods, how it can change and intensify emotions, or even have a manipulative effect on the listener.

Hannah von Hübbenet creates unique sounds by experimenting with different ways of playing and using instruments. She combines her recordings of real instruments with electronic sounds, mixing them in unusual ways to create unmistakable sound worlds.

She studied violin at the Berlin University of the Arts as well as film music and sound design at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg.

Always searching for new musical inspiration by blending different music styles, Hannah von Hübbenet loves working in collaborations. Apart from teaming up with film music composer colleagues, she collaborated with Raphael Schalz-Bender (Grossstadtgeflüster), Ed Davenport (aka Inland) and Edward Mclean (Söhne Mannheims Jazz Department).

Films featuring her music have been nominated, awarded and screened at the Berlinale, Max Ophüls Preis Film Festival, Zurich Film Festival, DOK Leipzig, DOK.fest Munich, Deutscher Fernsehpreis, Deutscher Wirtschaftsfilmpreis, Achtung Berlin Film Festival, Vittorio Veneto Film Festival, Utah Film Award, Hot Docs Toronto, among others. The TV-series Charité 2, for which she co-composed the score, received an International Emmy Award nomination as Best Drama Series in 2020.

Hannah von Hübbenet is a guest lecturer at the Berlin University of the Arts, Hamburg University of Music and Theatre and the Hamburg Media School and founded the music collective Field Kit with fellow film composer John Gürtler
